Overviews of Information Literacy

These resources provide broad, comprehensive overviews to the wide variety of information resources on the Web which relate to information literacy. It is intended to give users a basic understanding of IL.

  • National Forum on Information Literacy (NFIL)
    The National Forum on Information Literacy was created in 1989 as a response to the recommendations of the American Library Association's Presidential Committee on Information Literacy.
  • The Information Literacy Place
    This website contributes to the discussion about information literacy, summarizes some key issues to build up a modest virtual textbook, and provides some key links to information literacy resources and people.
  • Directory of Online Resources for Information Literacy (DORIL)
    The Directory of Online Resources for Information Literacy (DORIL) is intended to provide librarians and other educators with a comprehensive, up-to-date guide to a wide variety of informational resources available on the World Wide Web that relate to the concept of information literacy.
  • European Network on Information Literacy
    The goal of this Network is to open a discourse on Information Literacy in the European Union to promote the establishment of a Culture of Information in Europe.
  • Library Instruction.Com – The Librarian's Weapon of Mass Instruction
    This site contains library instruction lesson plans, articles about library instruction, a large library instruction bibliography, and links to library instruction resources. This site also includes material relating to information literacy.
  • UNESCO – Information Literacy
    This program is developed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to provide people with the skills and abilities for critical reception, assessment and use of information in their professional and personal lives.
  • Formist : Formation à l’information scientifique et technique
    Ce site maintenu par l’Enssib (France) répertorie de très nombreux documents pédagogiques et des ressources portant sur la maîtrise de l'information par thème, discipline et types de documents. On y retrouve aussi des nouvelles et un blogue.
  • Réseau des URFIST
    Les Urfist sont des Unités régionales de formation à l'information scientifique et technique qui sont liées à des universités. On en compte 7 en France. Elles ont pour mission la formation des usagers aux nouvelles technologies de l'information et de la communication. Elles déploient également une activité de veille et de recherche sur plusieurs thématiques en lien avec les compétences informationnelles. Chacun des sites répertorie un ensemble de ressources et d’outils utiles aux formateurs.
  • FOURMI (FOrmations Universitaires en Réseau aux Méthodologies de l'Information)
    Le site de FOURMI répertorie des ressources pédagogiques pour la formation documentaire et est maintenu par l’Urfist de Paris.
