"Ways of Knowing" is Also a New Way of Teaching and Learning

An innovative course in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, offered for the first time in Fall 2005, is already attracting attention from other universities in Canada. Ways of Knowing is developing a reputation for its unique structure: a class of 200 attends guest lectures drawn from across the university, then breaks into small working groups of 10 mentored by senior students. Teaching in the West Bank with a Difference makes a Difference

University of Windsor Law Professor Reem Bahdi is hoping to use some innovative teaching techniques on the Canadian-Palestinian Judicial Education Project, which aims to support the judicial sector in the Palestinian Authority by promoting the impartiality of judges and training in human rights. When Harry Met Larry

On Oct 30 and Nov 01 of this year, curriculum-development expert Dr. Harry Hubball (UBC) will be revisiting Windsor to discuss progress made by the university in making this a more "learning-centered" institution. During his first visit in 2003, he discussed program development with the Academic Management Group, led course-design workshops, and met with individual faculty. Full Story

OCUFA Honours Windsor Professors

On June 10, 2005, two University of Windsor faculty, Education Professor Ian Crawford and Biological Sciences Professor Jon Lovett-Doust, were named among Ontario's six most outstanding university teachers in a province-wide competition adjudicated by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) Awards Committee.

Lights, Camera, Collaboration!

Nestled in the heart of the University of Windsor's old drama building, behind an unassuming door with the words "Studio 5" in toy block lettering, is a room where students are learning how to manipulate time and space. This high-ceilinged classroom with cinderblock walls is filled with sophisticated equipment that captures light and assembles it into alternate realities. Full Story

From June 8 through 11, 2005, the University of PEI, Charlottetown was the gracious host of the Society for Teaching and Learning In Higher Education (STLHE) 2005 Conference, "A Fine Balance: The Student Experience of Learning," featuring keynote speakers Dr. Alastair Summerlee, President of the University of Guelph and Dr. Maryellen Weimer, editor of The Teaching Professor.
